Constellations; the Great Bear. Colored engraving from the Wellcome Collection.

Ursa Major, also known as the Great Bear, is a constellation visible in the northern hemisphere during the spring and summer months. It is one of the most recognizable constellations in the sky, and is famous for containing the asterism known as the Big Dipper or the Plough. In Greek mythology, the constellation is associated with the story of Callisto, a nymph who was transformed into a bear and placed in the sky by Zeus.
